Hurrem Sultan Bath (Hürrem Sultan Hamamı)

The Hurrem Sultan Hamam is another great example of a traditional Turkish bath. It was constructed during the 16th century during the Ottoman reign. It was designed and built by the chief Ottoman architect Sinan. The hamam is placed near the notable Hagia Sophia.

In 2007 the Hurrem Sultan Hamam was returned to its original use. The authorities did their best to restore its original architecture and to make it a nice place for visitors.

The Hamam can be visited either by men or by women. There are two separate sections. Each section consists of three rooms - a cold room, a warm room and a hot room. In the cold room you will be introduced to the bath! This is the room where you can change your clothes with the towel you need for your bath experience. You can place your personal possessions in the dressing rooms that will be for your private use during the stay in the hamam. You will receive all the useful information related to your stay in the bath and the procedures.

The cold room is followed by the warm room. In the warm room you body is adjusted to the temperature changes with the help of regular steam flows. The temperature here is higher than in the cold room but you will enjoy it! In the warm room you will take the chance to taste some of the traditional Turkish beverages! The kind staff will arrange everything for you precisely so that you can have a nice stay in the bath.

Entering the hot room, you can start with the procedures. You can try the original Turkish bath procedures that include body washing and peeling. If you want you can use the special tellak service where your body will be scrubbed down! The feeling is quite pleasant and you will feel the relief immediately. You can also try some of the offered massages such as an aromatherapy oil massage, a traditional massage with original Turkish soap and a facial clean mask! Lying on the platform, you can take a cup of Turkish coffee or tea.

The experience in the hot room will probably make you feel tired so you can go out any time you want. You can continue with your Turkish bath experience in the special rest rooms where you can have a short nap or you can also take a cold shower that will energize your body!!
